This year the Home Office launched ‘Not in My Neighbourhood Week’. The Greater Manchester High Sheriffs Police Trust’s contribution was 26 homes on the border of Urmston and Stretford where Home Security Surveys were carried out. From these surveys security lighting was installed to meet the initiative in addition to providing a Crime Prevention Pod on location to provide information for the local community on improving security in the area. The electricians and installation was provided by sponsors Copeland Group, with the light fittings being provided by fellow sponsors Solon Security. It is hoped the initiative will not only raise levels of security in the area and help residents feel more secure in their homes but also raise awareness of what people can do to help themselves and each other with regards to home security. By actively demonstrating partnership crime reduction at work it is hoped links will be formed between residents and their Neighbourhood Policing Team and that this help to establish new Home Watch Schemes in the area.
